Looking for a flexible contract/ or a freelance project?

 

Due to the major rail infrastructure project for Thames Link, our London based client are seeking a Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) with Railway Design Experience to work freelance on an 8 month contract, to manage the standard Network Rail process in relation to particular Earthing & Bonding and M&E Rail Network System’s interface elements such as EMC & UTXs.

 

To manage, control and co-ordinate the program of design works to time, scope and budget, ensuring all safety, quality and environmental requirements are met.  The requirements of the CRE role are defined by Network Rail standard:  NR/L2/INI/02009

 

CONTRACTOR’S RESPONSIBLE ENGINEER / Railway Engineering CRE

 

LOCATION: Home based – anywhere in the UK.  To attend standard and technical review meetings on-site in the NW London office, once a month (approx.).  Working from your home office.

SHORT TERM CONTRACT:  Freelance Assignment.  Flexible working hours.

SALARY: Guaranteed generous monthly retainer for CRE works and an agreed standard rate for each assigned and submitted document.

 

Reporting to the CEM, you will be an integral part of the design development process to ensure that the design as presented is safe, practical to construct and complies with all the desired engineering standards, legislation and quality requirements. Managing your own time, ensuring deliverables, writing accurate, clear, high quality documents, meeting challenging deadline and within budget.

 

  • Providing the approved Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) documentation following the completion of the works using the following programmes- Work Package Plan (WWP), Task Briefing Sheets (TBS), Safe Work Packs.

 

  • Managing all Technical Queries (TQs) and Requests for Information (RFIs) raised by the Design, Construction and Installation Teams, bringing them to the attention of the CEM. Investigating Engineering solutions as required.

 

 

In order to carry out the role of Contractors Appointed Engineer (CRE) in accordance with the requirements of Network Rail policies, you will ideally hold an Authority to Work (AtW) in line with NRL2INI02009 and have the following qualifications:

  • Engineering degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent industry-recognised training qualification.
  • Member of the Institute of Institution of Engineering & Technology or the Institution of Civil Engineers or equivalent professional membership.
  • In depth knowledge of Network Railway Electrification Infrastructure.
  • Demonstrable AC electrification and railway signalling design experience.
  • PTS Holder- Railway Safety Training.

Having acted as CRE (Design) for Multidiscipline Railway Engineering Projects, you will have experience of delivering and managing all stages of CDM from initial research through to the detailed design documentation.  You will have experience of working in the UK rail industry with a knowledge and understanding of Network Rail standards and approval processes, all the life cycle stages of rail infrastructure and how their work interfaces with signalling engineering.

You will be highly motivated, have excellent written and oral communication skills, and be able to liaise with planners, designers, engineers and technicians, in a collaborative approach to project delivery.

 

It is possible that CRE’s delivering an excellent service will be offered new assignments within Network Rail on either an ad hoc or permanent basis depending on your competencies and commitments.

 

You may have already gained some Electro- Mechanical Design experience, possibly as a Senior Design Engineer, Rail Civil Engineer, Principal Project Engineer CRE, Designated Project Engineer (DPE), Signalling Project Engineer, Principle Rail Design Engineer, Project Manager CRE Electrical and Mechanical, Rail Design Manager or similar.
